Published: Friday, 17 April 2026

Please be aware that the Ultra‑X event will take place over the weekend of 2-3 May. As a result, there is expected to be a higher than normal number of people using the route during this period.

  • Ultra‑X Scotland is a major trail running event held annually in the Scottish Highlands, centred around Loch Ness. Taking place over 2–3 May, the event attracts hundreds of runners from the UK and abroad to compete across a range of distances, from short trail runs to multi‑day ultra‑marathons.
  • Routes follow iconic paths including the Great Glen Way and the South Loch Ness Trail, passing through Inverness, Fort Augustus, Foyers and Dores. The event showcases the area’s dramatic landscapes while offering fully supported races with checkpoints, medical cover and overnight camping for longer distances.
  • Ultra‑X Scotland is now one of the country’s largest ultra‑running events and brings a noticeable increase in visitors and activity along the routes and nearby communities over the event weekend.
